Bedford, NH. (October 4, 2021): BeBOLD is sponsoring its 5th annual “BEDFORD GOES RED” for Red Ribbon Week, a national drug prevention initiative held October 23 – 31. BeBOLD’s “Bedford Goes Red” for Red Ribbon Week is a local, community effort run in conjunction with National Red Ribbon Week.

BeBOLD’s ‘Bedford Goes Red’ for Red Ribbon Week is an entire week of businesses and homes displaying red ribbons and/or red lights to support and encourage people to stay drug free.

You can get red ribbons/bows at Primary Bank, located at 207 NH-101 in Bedford and Cohen Closing and Title, located at 334 NH-101 in Bedford. You can get red light bulbs generously donated by and available at Bedford ACE Hardware located at 209 NH-101. Red ribbons/bows and lights are FREE, while supplies last!

Once you have your red lights and/or red ribbons displayed, take a video or photo of you “going RED and being BOLD”, send it to president@beboldbedford.org and we will post it on our social media! Support BeBOLD and get your business’ name out in the community!

BeBOLD is also hosting special activities to celebrate Red Ribbon Week, including an outdoor movie night for BHS students on Sunday, October 24; a presentation, which is open to the public, by Teen Challenge on Wednesday, October 27 from 7-8:30pm in the Lurgio Media Center; and a photo booth and giveaways at the BHS Football game on Friday, October 29.

“BeBOLD’s ‘Bedford Goes Red’ for Red Ribbon Week is an entire week of displaying red ribbons and/or red lights showing our community we care and encouraging people to stay drug free. Driving through Bedford and seeing the red ribbons and lights all over town shows a sense of love and support, not only to those suffering from addiction, but to ALL of us during these challenging times,” said Joy Monfried, BeBOLD’s President. “Our local businesses, municipalities and homeowners have really stepped up and shown their support in the past, and we expect participation will be even greater this year,” she adds.

Anyone can get red ribbons and red lights at Primary Bank, located at 207 NH-101 in Bedford (the old Harvest Market Plaza) and Cohen Closing and Title, located at 203 Meetinghouse Road in Bedford. Stop by either of these businesses and get yours FREE, while supplies last!

Dear Supporter-
As we end the 2019 school year, I feel compelled to reach out to the Bedford community and thank them for supporting BeBOLD and our efforts to educate our community on the drug and alcohol prevention epidemic we are facing in our State, our community, our schools and our lives.

As I reflect back on what we have done this past year, I know there is still MUCH MORE to accomplish. BeBOLD will continue our mission to educate our kids and parents with hopes that not ONE Bedford child or parent will suffer from the effects of drugs and alcohol abuse.

This year was a stellar year for BeBOLD. We kicked off the school year with Red Ribbon Week and partnered with businesses, the Bedford School District and community members to build awareness and bring Bedford together in creating awareness and prevention.

We hope you will support us again in the Fall!

Here are some of the ways BeBOLD worked hard to achieve our goals:
We held Speakers Series at the Bedford Library every month, which focused on such topics as:

• Vaping
• Marijuana Legalization Issues
• Social Liability/Hosting Parties with Alcohol
• Building Resilience In Your Teen
• The Youth Risk Behavior Survey Results & What They Mean for Bedford
• It Can Happen To Any Family – Two Brothers & Police Officers Share Their Journey
• One Of Our Own – Jenna Collins – Bedford HS Student & Her Path To Recovery

We helped at risk students at our various schools by providing scholarships & access to FREE after school activities;
We partnered with the PTG for “Stand By Me” and the Lynn Lyons presentation on “The Gift of Failure”;
We participated in numerous events including Olde Towne Day, Voting Day, Witch Way to the 5K and many more.

But none of these programs can happen with out YOUR support! I would like to thank the many businesses and community partners that help support BeBOLD!

Are you a parent of a BHS student or a BHS student who is entering college, university, or a police academy? You may be eligible for a $1,000 scholarship from BeBOLD Bedford simply by creating a quick 3-minute video about one of the topics below before this Friday, May 10.

If you plan on studying counseling, social work, psychology (with a focus on addiction counseling or substance abuse related field), pre-medicine, emergency medicine, or nursing – or a related field – you are eligible for one of these scholarships.

Amount: $1,000 – (Up to 2 Scholarships at $1,000 each)

Description: This annual scholarship will be awarded to a Bedford High School senior entering an accredited college, university or police academy with plans to continue their enrollment. Areas of study that are to be considered include, but are not limited to; counseling, social work, psychology (with a focus on addiction counseling or substance abuse related field), pre-medicine, emergency medicine, nursing. Applicants will submit a video no longer than 3 minutes, describing why they are passionate about health care with a focus on substance abuse and mental health. Video submissions can draw from personal experience or passion.
Themes may include:

• A project you developed to create prevention awareness in the community.
• What do you think schools and parents should do to educate students on drug and alcohol prevention and why.
• What do you think is the biggest risk factor in teens and how would you work to solve this issue.
• Create an innovative public service announcement on drug and alcohol prevention.

BeBOLD requests permission to use the winning submissions for promotional purposes.

New Hampshire representatives have introduced a bill that would support retail sales of all forms of marijuana products with no limits on potency. This bill does not include the necessary protections to keep our youth and communities healthy. Please use your voice to let legislators know how wrong this bill would be for our youth. Oppose HB 481 and stop the commercialization of marijuana in NH.

HB 481 will be heard by the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee on Tuesday, February 5th, at 1:00 PM
